Location: Galbiate, Lecco district, Lombardia region, North of Italy Monte Barro Regional Park

Project:Monte Barro is a really interesting little mountain, placed in a hilly area between Milan and Lecco. In such a small area (665 ha), volunteers will find a high variety of landscapes and biodiversity, matching with history and culture. From their accommodation on the top of the mountain, volunteers will have the chance to admire the beautiful landscape offered by the pre-Alps chain and Como Lake. The volunteers will also have the possibility to visit the archaeological site, the bird-watching point and the ethnographic museum located inside the Monte Barro Park, while having relaxing walks. Legambiente has been collaborating for years with the Park for the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity.

Work: Thevolunteers will be manually removing weeds on the top of the mountain to encourage the breeding of rare flowerswhich makes the Park an exaordinary natural botanical garden.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a guesthouse provided with beds, toilet and showers, and a well-equipped kitchen.

Leg02 Guardiagrele (Ch) Parco Nazionale della Majella Abruzzo 10 23/06 CULT 10 Vol (18+)

Location: Guardiagrele is a town in the province of Chieti, part of the Abruzzo region of central Italy.

Project:The project is dedicate to restore urban areas and green areas in the town of Guardiagrele, the main centre of the Majella National Park.

Work: The volunteers will use manual tools like rakes, blades, picks, hatchets, brushes, saws. We will move every morning from the hostel to the trail, start working, have our pocket lunch, and work again until 5 oclock.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the il grande faggio hostel.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Terminal: The closer airport is the International Airport of Abruzzo. The closer train station is Pescara Centrale or Chieti.

Leg03 Afragola (Na) Campania 17-30.06 ENVI 15 vol (18+)

Location: Afragola, Napoli, in Campania region.

Project:The Project will take place in Afragola, a city near Naples. There are large green areas that will been recover by volunteers. The volunteers will also take part in sporting and cultural events, organised in cooperation between Legambiente local group and the local community.



Work: The volunteers will work on cleaning and recovering of the large green areas of the city. New marks will be installed in cooperation with local volunteers that work for the environmental safeguard and the development of the area.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the headquarters of our association.

Leg04 Valle del Lambro Pusiano (Co) Lombardia 23/06 6/07 ENVI 14 Vol (18+)

Location: Pusiano, como district, small town overlooking the lake, Lambro Valley Park

Project: The Lambro Valley looks like a long green tunnel linking Milan to the Pre-Alps. The park also offers rich historical, as ancient villas and churches, in the green Brianza. Lambro Park area is very important as a natural defense against the use of soil, with this workcamp Legambiente want to reiterate the commitment against the use of land.

Work: The volunteers will be engaged in cleaning the beaches of Lake Pusiano and will help the park staff in monitoring and capture of the Louisiana Shrimp and bird ringing activities

Leg05 Pollone (Bi) Piemonte 25/06 9/07 ENVI/FEST 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Pollone is a small village in the Elvo Valley, one of the 5 valleys that compose the district of Biella, in Piedmont region.

Project:The Project will take place in Pollone, a small village hosting the Spacial Nature Reserve of Burcina Park. In this landscapes its possible to walk in mountain paths, see farms, churches, beautiful villas that adorn the road from Pollone to the next village Sordevolo. A characteristic element is the agriculture with the breeding cow Pezzata rossa dOropa.

Work: The volunteers will be involved in cleaning and maintenance of the historical path dedicated to Pier Giorgio Frassati (a relevant historical man of the local culture) and helping in the preparation of the traditional festival Palio dei Rioni, in cooperation with local volunteers that work for the environmental safeguard and the development of the area.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the building of the middle school in Pollone in mixed rooms.

Leg06 Novara (No) Piemonte 30.06-13.07 ENVI 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Novara is a city on the edge of the Ticino Park, a few kilometers from Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta.

Project:The volunteers will workin three major parks of the city, cleaning, restoring, giving them a new identity and raising peoples awareness, in order to use the green areas in a responsible way.

Work: The volunteers will be involved, in cooperation with the local volunteers, in cleaning the parks and collecting waste, pruning the trees, restoring and painting the benches.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the gym of an elementary school in mixed rooms.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Leg07 Spresiano (Tv) Veneto 1 14/07 ENVI 12 vol (18+)

Location:Spresiano is a village of 12.000 citizens, placed in the middle of the Trevigianas plain, on the right side of Piave river.

Project:In Spresiano there is Villa Giustiniani Recanati, a mansion from XVI century, placed in a wide historical park. A part of this park (12000 square meters) is open to the public and its maintained by the local government and Legambiente. The park has a big naturalistic importance, and inside theres a small artificial lake that was abandoned and now needs maintenance.

Work:Volunteers will be involved in the works of maintenance of the ancient park. The activities will be cleaning paths, consolidation works of the banks of a small lake, repair of the fence of the lake.

Accomodation:The volunteers will be hosted in a school.

Language:A basic English will be the official language in the camp.

Leg08 Scafa (Pe) Abruzzo 01 15/07 ENVI/CULT 15 Vol (+18)

Location: Decontra di Scafa, Pescara district, Abruzzo region, Centre Italy.

Project:The volunteers tasks contemplate the restoration and conservation of the area of Sulphureous Sources of the Lavino River and the Mill of the 600 (within the campaign Save the Art). The main actions will be turned to the restoration of the Mill, to the cleaning of some features of the paths more attend from the tourists, to the maintenance of the equipped areas, to the cleaning of the contiguous area to the ancient flour mill, fed from the Sulphureous Sources of the Lavino river.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in cleaning paths, maintaining of the equipped areas, cleaning contiguous area of the seventeenth-century flour mill, contributing in the organisation of events and manifestations.

Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in a guesthouse near the Equipped Park.

Leg09 Trivero Mosso (Bi) Piemonte 4 18/07 ENVI/FEST 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Trivero and Mosso are two a small village in the Mosso Valley, one of the 5 valleys that compose the district of Biella, in Piedmont region.

Project:The project will take place on the mountains near Trivero and Mosso, two neighbour villages, in the Oasi Zegna, a park extended for around 40 Km, that covers the oriental part of the Biella Alps. Volunteers will have the chance to admire this marvellous alpine landscape by taking nice walks in the woods and know the history of freedom path.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in cleaning and maintenance mountain paths, cooperating with local volunteers. They will also participate in the organization of the traditional fest of Bulliana hamlet.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the local school and they will sleep in mixed rooms.

Leg10 Venezia Isola della Certosa Veneto 06 - 20/07 ENVI 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Certosa Island is located in the splendid landscape of the Park of the Lagoon.

Project:The main objective of the project is to contribute to the prestige of the lagoon and its islands by preserving and restoring the archaeological, natural and cultural heritage of Certosa. The work to encourage authorities, citizens and public opinion to take care of their World Heritage and to ensure the protection of their natural and cultural heritage is also an important aspect of the project. Finally, the project aims at raising awareness about environmental values to improve the ecological and cultural education in the region. This is the fifth year that Legambiente is running a camp in Certosa Island, involving more than 200 national and international young volunteers since the beginning of the activities on the island.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in the maintenance of Certosas structures and naturalistic paths, in order to make the access to the natural park and its archaeological sites easier. Furthermore, volunteers will organise public activities and events.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in a green area of the Island, in 1 big tent for 12 people equipped with camp beds.

Leg11 Alpe Dosso (So) Orobie Valtellinesi 7 20/07 ENVI 12 Vol (+18)

Location: Alpe Dosso (Lesina Valley), Sondrio district, Lombardia region, North of Italy.

Project:The Valtellina Orobie Valtellinesi Mountains Park covers the northern side of the Orobie Alps chain and it is characterized by deep and almost parallel valleys that drop steeply towards the plain valley crossed by Adda river. Legambiente has been collaborating for years with the Park, Ersaf and Municipalities to enhance the value of these important valleys with their historical richness, culinary traditions and biodiversity. Alpe Dosso (1500 m above sea level) is a mountain pasture, located in the wildest of these valleys, Val Lesina; due to its harshness, the Valley has never been urbanized, so that it has been almost entirely preserved in its original natural environment rich in vegetation and animals.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in the cleaning and maintenance of paths, woods and pastures.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a restored alpine hut, provided with beds, toilet and equipped kitchen.

Leg12 Gerola Alta (So) Orobie Valtellinesi 7 20/07 ENVI 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Gerola Alta, Sondrio district, Lombardia region, Northern Italy.

Project:Gerola Alta, located at 1050 m above sea level, is one of the towns that lie within The Valtellina Orobie Mountains Park. The Orobie Alps is the first alpine chain you meet, as you come north along the Great Plain of Lombardia region. The Park covers the northern side of the chain and it is characterized by deep and almost parallel valleys that drop steeply towards the plain valley crossed by Adda river. Legambiente has been collaborating for years with the Park, Ersaf and Municipalities to enhance the value of these important valleys with their historical richness, culinary traditions and biodiversity. The valley where the camp will take place is well known because of its landscape with beautiful alpine lakes, but also because of the important production of a typical cheese called Bitto.

Work: Legambientes volunteers will be involved in the maintenance of paths, woods and pastures.

Leg13 Bizzarone (Co) Parco Valle Del Lanza Lombardia 8 22/07 ENVI 12 Vol (18+)

Location: The Park is located between the provinces of Como and Varese in an area famous for its lakes.

Project: The park was born with the aim of safeguarding the valley from the expansion of the urban areas and to improve sustainable tourism. The paths' net of the area is very important because is part of the greenway that connect Milano's area with Switzerland.

Work:Cleaning and maintenance of paths and of an historical defense system known as linea Cadorna at the border with Switzerland. Work is in collaboration with local groups of volunteers.

Accommodation: Gym end tents with camp-beds and a house with a big common room and self-manage kitchen for meals.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Leg14 San Paolo Cervo (Bi) Piemonte 8 22/07 ENVI 12 Vol (18+)

Location: San Paolo Cervo is a small village in the Cervo Valley, one of the 5 valleys that compose the district of Biella, in Piedmont region.

Project:San Paolo Cervo is a little mountain village in Valle Cervo (850-900 m above sea level). Volunteers will be involved in the happy atmosphere that characterizes this place in the summer. Local people will teach them most important aspects of their ancient culture. Some mountain walks will be organized to show volunteers the beauty of that landscape and some problems dealing with such a difficult environment.

Work: Volunteers will be especially involved in works dealing with wood cleaning, paying a particular attention to restoring ancient tracks in bad conditions. They will also contribuite to the safeguard of parks and green areas in the territory.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the hut of the cultural association Val Mosca in mixed rooms.

Leg15 Ivrea (To) Piemonte 12 26/07 ENVI 10 Vol (18+)

Location: Ivrea is a town in Torino district, Piedmont region.

Project:The project consists mainly of restoring a path along wood and lakes in order to allow reaching the hills from the countryside by foot. It is the continuation of the last year activity.

The knowledge of the territory and its culture is to be considered part of the work.

Ivrea was founded by the Romans and there are still signs of; it is in the centre of an area that is the largest European Morenic Amphitheatre.

Ivrea is also known in the world because Olivetti typewriters, computers and printers and the social imprinting given by the founder Camillo and his son Adriano.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in maintaining sign posts, pruning bushes, clearing brambles. Other activities could be helping experts to organise events and excursions on naturalistic and anthropological themes.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in a dedicated hostel in Ivrea.

Leg17 Rosolina Mare (Ro) Veneto 15 - 28/07 ENVI/FEST 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Rosolina is a small town in the Delta of the river Po, the biggest river in Italy.

Project: Voci per la libertà is a festival promoted by the Italian section of Amnesty International and the cultural association Voci per la libertà. It is born in 1998 on the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Universal Human Rights.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in all the activities the festival, as well as keeping the area tidy and aiding people to do a proper garbage separation. Furthermore they will be involved in cleaning the surrounding beaches and in monitoring tourists.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in a camping site with all necessary facilities.

Leg18 Baveno (Vb) Piemonte 15 29/07 ENVI/FEST 14 Vol (18+)

Location: Baveno, Verbania district, Piedmont region, Northern Italy, Lake Maggiore

Project:Baveno is a village (5000 inhabitants) on Borromeos gulf. Many paths start from Baveno to close mountains (from 210 to 1000 m above the sea level) and offer the chance to admire a lot of wonderful views. It is possible to have nice walks and practice bird watching.

Work: The volunteers will be involved in preparing the event Festambiente in the final weekend of the camp; besides they will be involved in monitoring and cleaning the natural reserve of Fondo Toce. Park rangers will take care of training sessions.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a parish recreation centre, with professional kitchen.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Terminal: The meeting point (Stresa railway station) is in Piedmont region. It is 90 km (north) from Milan and 120 km (east) from Turin. You can reach Stresa from Caselle (Turin), Malpensa (Milan), Linate (Milan) and Orio al Serio (Milan-Bergamo) airports.

Leg19 Ponte di Piave (Tv) Veneto 16 29/07 ENVI 12 vol (18+)

Location:The land of Ponte di Piave is completely level and passed through the Piave river that create a beautiful natural environment rich of water.

Project:In Ponte di Piave, in the pre-roman age, lived here a lot of horse farmers and in the XI century monks started growing grape-vine.

In Ponte di Piave there are many historical buildings like the Church of Saint Bonifacio (X century).

The municipality is a member of the National Association Cities of Wine. There are different and precious kind of red and white wine. One of them is Raboso Piave, a precious red wine made by an ancient local grape.

Work:Volunteers will be involved in environmental activities like cleaning and maintaining parks in Ponte di Piave and near villages; and then cleaning and maintaining paths and bicycle paths that begin and go into the bed of Piave river.

Accomodation:The volunteers will be hosted in a school.

Leg20 Paestum (Sa) Fascia costiera Paestum Campania 16 30/07 ENVI/CULT 8 Vol (18+)

Location: The Territory of Paestum is very beautiful: archeology, sea, sandy beaches, sun and good food.

Project:Paestum has a coastline of sandy beaches where the sand vegetation grows. It is a very delicate habitat that needs a lot of attention, specially during summertime when the beaches are crowded. The volunteers will help the local group in the activities of environmental protection and in the realization of signals. Moreover the volunteers will cooperate in the activities of social animation destinated to the tourists and to all the people that everyday spends time on the beaches, often with a little consideration of the delicate habitat that lives on the dunes.

Work: The volunteers will be involved in the maintenance and cleaning of the pinewood which stands along the beaches, in the protected area realized by Legambiente and part of the archaeological site of Paestum coastline.

Accommodation: Full-equipped flat and in a cottage just on the beach where is possible to have meals after work.

Location: Quincinetto is a small village in the North-West of Italy at the feet of the Alps.

Project: The volunteer will contribute to the recovery of ancient mountain paths and other old human works, in order to allow a promotion of a naturalistic and sustainable approach to the mountain environment by the tourists and the visitors.

Work:The volunteers will be involved in maintaining sign posts, pruning bushes, clearing brambles, restoring stone walls and fences, street furniture and building of special artistic and historical value .

Accommodation: The Volunteers will be hosted in a public school in Quincinetto village.

Leg22 Poggiodomo (Pg) Valnerina Umbria 19/07-03/08 ENVI 15 Vol (18+)

Location: Poggiodomo is located in Valnerina, in one of the most beautiful mountain landscape of Umbria.

Project:The project will take place in Poggiodomo, the smallest town in Umbria, at about 1000 meters above sea level in the heart of Valnerina, in the Natural Area Coscerno-Aspra. With its valleys crossed by rivers with clean and clear water, pastures, wooded mountains, the country churches and the rest of the cultural hermitages. Places that still show traces of rare animals and wild animals such as wolves, deer and eagles.

Since 1996 Legambiente Umbria manages the center for environmental education and promotes actions for the maintenance and enhancement of the environment through voluntary activities, campaigns and events involving local communities.

Work: Volunteers will work in the maintenance of green areas and the cleaning and maintenance of the mountain paths. They will also participate in the organization of the town festival.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in the Centre of Environmental Education managed by Legambiente Umbria.

Leg23 Albaredo per San Marco (SO) Lombardia 21/07- 03/08 ENVI 8 Vol (18+)

Location: Albaredo per San Marco, Sondrio district, Lombardia region, North of Italy.

Project:The Orobie Alps is the first alpine chain you meet, as you come north along the Great Plain of Lombardia region. The Park covers the northern side of the chain and it is characterized by deep and almost parallel valleys that drop steeply towards the plain valley crossed by Adda river. Work: Legambientes volunteers will be involved in the cleaning and maintenance of paths, woods and pastures.

Leg24 Schio Monte Magrè (Vi) Veneto 22/07-04/08 ENVI 9 Vol (18+)

Location: The workcamp will take place in Monte Magrè, a village of 350 inhabitants situated 5 km far from Schio (province of Vicenza), in a wonderful natural area that rises 412 metres above the sea level.

Project: In one of the hills surrounding the city of Schio, in a beautiful natural context there is the little dreams garden, created twenty years ago by a man who used to wish that one day the hole world could become a huge marvelous garden. Unfortunately this area its now ruined because no one takes care of it: but thanks to your help it can return to his original beauty!

Work: Volunteers will be working on cleaning and maintenance in this little garden which hosts over than three hundred kinds of different plants. Carpentry skills will be good if you wish to develop your creativity by making something new with your own hands for the gardens.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in a little house with a main room.

Leg25 Sortino (Sr) Sicilia 23/7 - 07/08 ENVI/CULT 13 Vol (18+)

Location: Sortino is located on the Iblei Mounts, in the eastern Sicily.

Project:The project will take place in different locations: the archaeological sites of the Pantalica Necropolis (included in the Unesco World Heritage sites), the Anapo Valley and the Heritage of Santa Sofia.

Volunteers will be involved in different working activities in these archaeological areas around Sortino.

Work: Volunteers will work in cleaning paths, monitoring and raising awareness of tourists, and they will help Legambientes local group in the organization of social and cultural events.

Accommodation:The volunteers will be hosted in an ancient building recently restructured and located right outside Sortino.

Leg26 Veddasca (Va) Lombardia 24/07 - 7/08 ENVI 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Valle Veddasca is a beautiful, remote valley located in the Pre-alpine zone of Varese district, next to the Swiss border.

Project:The area is characterized by large broadleaf woods in particular chestnut and beeches, and hosts a great number of animals, as well as traditional mountain farms and villages. Stretching into one of the most famous Italian lakes, the Lago Maggiore, the valley offers a unique panoramic position. The area is famous for hiking, and for the production of a typical cheese called Formaggella del Luinese. After the industrial development of the plan nearby, the valley was abandoned for long time. Today is becoming important for tourism but also for the pasturage of goats, thanks also to people and organization that came back from cities looking for a different lifestyle.

Work: Volunteers will work in the maintenance of evidences of the rural landscape and of paths, and also for the reconstruction and renovation of mountain houses, using renewable energies.

Accommodation: Mountain's hostel, one big room with bunk beds, kitchen and showers with solar panels.

Leg27 Chiaverano (To) Piemonte 02 - 16/08 ENVI 12 Vol (18+)

Location: Chiaverano is a small village in Piedmont region, in the largest European Morenic Amphitheatre.

Project:The project consists mainly of following up the last year project, continuing to restore paths leading to Ivrea border in order to allow reaching the hills from the countryside by foot in a nice environment: wood and lakes. Furthermore touristic indications will be developed and put in place. Other activities could be helping experts to organise events and excursions on naturalistic and anthropological themes. The nearest town is Ivrea known in the world because Olivetti typewriters , computers and printers. The knowledge of the territory and its culture is to be considered part of the work.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in maintaining sign posts, pruning bushes, clearing brambles, and restoring stone walls and fences.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a dedicated hostel building in Chiaverano village.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Location: Montevecchia e Curone Valley park, very important green area rich of biodiversity

Project:The project inside the Montevecchia e Curone Valley park is intensive and various: the area shows a very high dissimilarity of environments, included the human one, that needs a lot of maintenance. Being a very haunted park, paths and sign-postings associated are very important, but not less important the areas along the Molgora river, that periodically needs adjustments, like thin meadows inside the park. There is also an ancient fountain that needs to be cleaned and maintained periodically.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in mowing thin meadows and will do interventions to paths with particular attention to the sign-posting. Besides, volunteers will do maintenance and cleaning activities in the ancient fountain Gallarati-Scotti.

Leg29 Monsummano (Pt) Toscana 04 - 18/08 ENVI 15 Vol (18+)

Location: This workcamp will be in Monsummano Terme (District of Pistoia, in the region of Toscany).

Project:Following the work of last year, the main aim of the project is the safeguarding of ancient paths in another area of our valley, Valdinievole. This year the camp will be in Montevettolini, a middle age village on the hills of Montalbano, location kwon for its typical oil and wine production. As in other international workcamps one of the main aim is also cultural exchange.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in working activities for about 30 hours per week. In this workcamp we are going to clean a footpath which goes around the middle age village of Montevettolini. Clean the path means to cut the plants that have grown on the path, build little stone walls, restore signs on the path

Accommodation: The public gym building.

Language: English will be the official language of the camp.

Leg30 Refrontolo (Tv) Veneto 07 20/08 ENVI 12 vol (18+)

Location:Refrontolo extends between the hills with the charming landscapes of vineyards and the Crevadas valley.

Project:Refrontolo is also called The Island Of Refrontolo Passito DOC for the local sweet and aromatic wine obtained by Marzemina grapes; its crossed by the Prosecco wine road and by a lot of cycle routes. This is a land of good wine and good kitchen, with many restaurants and agritourisms. Near the center of the village theres the Battaglia-Spada XVII century villa and the panoramic Tempietto Spada. Between the hills, along the Lierza stream, theres the enchanting Molinetto della Croda (XVII century), an ancient mill restored and still working.

Work:Volunteers will help in the organization of the local festival. Moreover they will be involved in environmental activities like cleaning and maintaining paths that begin from Molinetto della Croda and rise on the hills behind.

Accomodation:The volunteers will be hosted in the school-gym for sleep and in a house for associations for the meal.

Language:A basic English will be the official language in the camp.

Leg31 Agira (En) Sicilia 17 31/08 ENVI 15 vol (18+)

Location: The Natural Reserve Vallone Piano della Corte, in the province of Enna is located in a valley known as the strong-hold of Agira.

Project:

The projects objective is the maintenance of existing nature trails in the Natural Reserve and fire-prevention through the creation of firebreaks and fire lookout.

Work: The volunteers will be involved in the maintenance of existing nature trails infested of brambles and in the creation of new paths.

Accommodation: The volunteers will stay in a ex monastery (S. Agostino), used as a school building in the centre of Agira.

Leg32 Lama Ceregnano (Ro) Veneto 19/08 01/09 ENVI 10 vol (18+)

Location: Lama is located in the eastern part of the Polesine, the territory between the rivers Adige and Po in the north of Italy.

Project:Since 2012 Legambiente and AUSER Ceregnano have been cooperating to create a park in the area next to the train station of Lama. The work started with a summer workcamp and continued during CVA's Big Green Weekend. In november local volunteers of both associations planted several fruit and ornamental trees in the area. Little by little the park is coming to life and the work of the volunteers will help improve this area even further.

Work: Volunteers will be involved in environmental work for the improvement of the park with tasks such as cutting grass, cutting invasive vegetation and flattening the surfaces.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in the former ticket office and back-offices of the train station of Lama.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Leg33 Pian di Spagna (Co) Lombardia Mezzola 8 21/09 ENVI 10 Vol (18+)

Location: It is a very important swamp area, near the Alps, for the birds emigration, in a geographic frame of rare beauty.

Project:The Natural Reserve of Pian di Spagna and Mezzola Lake was established in 1985 to ensure a suitable environment for the stop-over and the nesting of the migratory birds, to protect and keep in safe the nature and the landscapes characteristic of the humid zone, to regulate and control the fruition of the area for didactic-recreational purposes and to regulate the socio-economic activities present in the area in the respect of the conservation needs of the environment.Legambiente is committed to this area to prevent the indiscriminate consumption of soil and protect biodiversity.

Work: The Volunteers, in collaboration with the Reserve's staff, will help in the maintenance and promotion of the environment, by preventing from the invasion of weeds, and they will assist the park staff in active ringing of birds

Leg34 Poggio alla Malva Carmignano (Po) Toscana 14 28/07 ENVI 10 Vol (18+)

Location: Poggio alla Malva, Carmignano, Prato, Toscana

Project:Poggio alla Malva is a small village in Tuscany, situated in a wonderful area near Carmignano with high archaeological interest. The area is close to the most important artistic cities of Tuscany, like Florence, Siena, Volterra, Pistoia. The surrounding landscape is the typical Tuscany one, rich in woods, hills and olive trees. Volunteers will work in order to remove the overgrowing plants and clean the path inside the protected area of Artimino, and will be involved in the construction of signage for the use of the protected area. The aim of the project, thanks to work of volunteers, is to create a new path usable by tourists, hikers and knights. Volunteers are also committed to helping the communities in the country to look for solutions in the fight against invasive species.

Work: Path maintenance and installation of hiking signs

Leg35 Montemurlo (Po) Toscana 01 15/07 ENVI 10 Vol (18+)

Location: Montemurlo, Prato, Toscana region.

Project:Montemurlo is a village situated 20 km from Florences centre. This area has various geological compositions and the site got the maintenance interest. From Monteferrato hills is taken off the precious green marble that was used to build parts of Cathedral of Florence. Many and various kind of woods and agriculture sectors are present in this area.

Volunteers will be involved in making and renovating paths.

Leg36 Anticoli Corrado (Rm) Lazio 26/08 8/09 CULT 15 Vol (18+)

Location: Anticoli Corrado is a village with less than a thousand inhabitants, 50 km from Rome.

Project: Anticoli Corrado could be a milestone for tourism. This because of its proximity to Rome, because it is included in the Aniene Valley (that can be visited on foot or by bike), because it has a long artistic history, because it is a very nice village .

After so many years of splendor, however, now is just the second home of many Romans, but is not well known by other tourists.

Volunteers will carry recovery activities to valorize the historical heritage of the village, getting to know the artists who have been here and their works

Work: The volunteers will contribute to the creation of a promotional campaign, to enhance artistic and cultural tourism in Anticoli Corrado.

Furthermore they will work for a presentation of the work done and a feast for the inhabitants of Anticoli to be held during the last day of the workcamp.

During the free time it will be possible to have excursions in the Aniene Valley, to visit the nearby villages and Rome.

Accommodation:Il Casone, a structure at the foot of the hill of Anticoli Corrado.

Leg37 San Giovanni in Fiore (Cs) Parco Nazionale della Sila Calabria 01 - 14/07 ENVI 15 Vol (+18)

Location: San Giovanni in Fiore (Cs), Parco Nazionale della Sila, Calabria

Project: In the Sila National Park, near the naturalistic Oasis Ariamacina, volunteers will be involved in the recovery of a path along an old railway. The aim of the project is to restore and enhance the old transhumance routes, along which there is a precious local architectural and cultural heritage.

Work: Volunteers will contribute to the renovation and development of ancient paths, in order to create the "greenways" that hikers, bicycle and disabled, tourists and students will be able to use.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a guest-house

Location: San Giovanni in Fiore (Cs), Parco Nazionale della Sila, Calabria

Project:In the Sila National Park, near the naturalistic Oasis Ariamacina volunteers will be involved in the recovery of a trail along a disused railway is with the aim to rediscover and enhance the old transhumance routes, along which insists a priceless heritage local architectural and cultural heritage, to create the "greenways" that hikers, bicycle and disabled, migrants, immigrants and students could go back and learn.

Work: Volunteers will contribute to the renovation and development of ancient paths, in order to create the "greenways" that hikers, bicycle and disabled, tourists and students will be able to use.

Leg39 Campo dei Fiori (Va) Lombardia 3 16/08 ENVI 12 vol (18+)

Location:The natural Park Campo Dei Fiori overlooks the hills of the Province of Varese and the Po Plain.

Project:The particular geographical location and the geological features favoured the presence of a various vegetation, with chestnut tree and beech tree woods, typical flora of the rocky areas, marshy and peaty zones rich in wildlife. The projects aim is the improvement of green tourism in order to prevent abandonment and degradation.

Work:Volunteers will work mainly in paths cleaning and maintenance in a garden around an historical building and in removing weeds from meadow at the top of the mountain

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in a common room with camp-beds and they'll use a camp-kitchen.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Leg40 Cava dIspica (Rg) Sicilia 29.06 14.07 ENVI/ARCH 15 Vol (18+)

Location: Cava d'Ispica is a river valley, between the towns of Modica and Ispica, surrounded by the typical Mediterranean vegetation.

Project:The multiple objectives of this initiative aim to the conservation of the archaeological site through voluntary work, and cultural exchange; covering a range of activities such as nature walks, visits to the baroque city, museums and participation in all initiatives promoted by local community. The workcamp experience can be an occasion of knowledge and promotion of the historical-architectural and natural characteristics of iblean region.

Work: The project activities will take place in the "Archaeological Park Cava Ispica": clean the paths from weeds, restoration of the trails which are no more accessible and organization of cultural events.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in a typical iblean building , with 15 beds, bathrooms and kitchen.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.

Special Remarks: The place is very isolated, and it wont be possible to use mobile telephone (there is no reception). A good resistance to hot climate is required.

 

 

Leg41 Pescomaggiore (Aq) Abruzzo 21.07 2.08 ENVI/RENO/CULT 15 Vol (18+)

Location: Pescomaggiore, Eco-Villaggio Autocostruito (Self-Built Eco-village) EVA. Rural area close to LAquila.

Project:The project will take place in Pescomaggiore, a village located at the slope of Gran Sasso Massif, along a ridge overlooking the valley of LAquila, a city which has been almost completely destroyed by an earthquake 4 years ago.

In this village, the local organization MISA, with the help of international volunteers, has self-built some houses with wood and straw-bale. Its a technology which has great energetic and anti-seismic performances.

The purpose of the project is the cleaning and maintenance of the historic paths, that fit into an already outlined net of hiking trails, pertaining to the Gran Sasso National Park. The whole on-field activity will be mapped using GPS and cartographic material will be produced, using GIS software, and attached to the final activity report.

Work: Volunteers will work on cleaning and maintenance of the paths. New marks will be designed, built and installed.

Furthermore there will be study session about the Self-Built Eco-Village, the straw-bale construction and the recovery of cultural heritage after an earthquake.

Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in tents. EVA will provide a kitchen, two toilets, two showers, wi-fi area and a refuge in case of severe meteorological events.

Language: English will be the official language in the camp.
